Meet Dave from Dianella Meats. Dave is a local icon and has been part of the Dianella community for 43 years.
Tell us about yourself and how you came to be part of the business?
I have been butchering for the last 53 years – it has been my one and only profession. I won Apprentice of the Year on my qualifying year and was presented with a gold watch by the Premier John Tonkin. My first choice was to pursue cabinet making, but when unable to find a job in that industry, I took the butchering path.
What do you love most about running the store?
I would say it’s the customer contact, being part of the Dianella community for 43 years and watching families grow and have children of their own.
What’s your favourite product in the store and why?
A ribeye would have to be my ultimate favourite, when cooked well, you just devour it.
Can you share a memorable customer story or a moment?
It would be a customer for many years, became a good friend and I married her!
When someone visits your store for the first time, what experience do you hope they walk away with?
I hope they walk away, happy with their purchase, the chat, and hopefully feel comfortable to ask us anything.
If you could tell every customer one thing about your store, what would it be?
I have loved doing what I do, I love my product and wish to share my knowledge with my customers.
